Dr Margaret Lam is President of Optometry Australia, assuming this role on 28 June 2022. She has been a director on the Optometry Australia board since late 2019.
Margaret graduated from the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of New South Wales in 2001. She started her independent Sydney-based optometry practices, theeyecarecompany by George and Matilda, in 2005. Margaret sees patients for primary eye care as well as specialty contact lenses.
Margaret’s practices joined George and Matilda Eyecare, a community of many independent practices across Australia, and she has also the company’s Head of Optometry Services.
She enjoys working in an independent optometry practice, and is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer for the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales, and mentors and teaches Undergraduate and Postgraduate Masters Students in Advanced Contact Lenses.
She has extensive expertise in speciality contact lens fitting, including orthokeratology, keratoconus and all types of corneal ectasia, and has been a past recipient of the Neville Fulthorpe Award for Clinical Excellence.
Margaret has worked in several advisory roles with leading contact lens companies. She writes for the optometry journal mivision and has published articles in Australian Optometry, Optometry Connection and Clinical and Experimental Optometry.
Dr Lam is currently serves as the National President of the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of Australia and in addition to her directorship with Optometry Australia, she is also a director of Optometry NSW/ACT.
