Challenging Clinical Cases - Demystifying the too hard basket
Optometry Australia’s webcast on Challenging Clinical Cases covers a range of diverse areas including dealing and examining patients with dementia and autism as well as the intricacies and complexities of patients with mental health disorders. Dr. Lorraine Venturato, Gerontologist and Associate Professor at the University of Calgary with her sister and optometrist Helen Venturato discuss the challenges of examining a patient with dementia. Paul Constable, academic at Flinders University talks about both is personal and professional journey with autism. And Louise Edwards, pharmacist and psychology major, who has conducted mental health first aid training to various groups around the country, demystifies the complex subject matter of patients with mental health disorders. The LowDown on Low Vision
Optometry Australia presented a new live webcast titled: Focussing on Low Vision on Wednesday 19th April at 7.00pm AEST. Low Vision consultant Paul Graveson and Jaci Armstrong (Principal Policy Advisor, Guide Dogs Australia) discussed clinical assessment and other ways to best support patients who present to you with low vision. The webcast combined both an informative presentation with an interview with a guest patient to discuss and talk about their experiences including challenges and overcoming of obstacles that their low vision has presented. take a look here

Australia's first National Eye Health Map
Our inaugural video titled 'Our Influential Voice' features a message from our President Kate Gifford in which she discusses Australia's first National Eye Health Map. Thousands of Australians living in regional areas are facing an increased risk of long-term eye and vision issues due to limited access to optometric services.

This group of four (4) videos has been developed as an educational resource to enhance the teaching of low vision to optometry students, and may also be of interest to practising optometrists. This resource was developed with the support of a Victorian Optometrists Training and Education (VOTE) Trust grant.
