Supporting better access to eye care in South Australia

South Australia’s public ophthalmology wait times have blown out to the extent that some people are quite literally going blind while waiting to see a specialist. At one Adelaide hospital, wait times jumped from 11 months in 2018, to an astounding 22 months in 2021. At another, the current median wait time for semi and non-urgent patients is 48 months.

The solution already exists. In 2020 the OV/SA backed Modbury Hospital optometry and ophthalmology pilot project reduced public ophthalmology wait times by 40-60 per cent. All it cost was $50,000 to operate.

OV/SA needs your help to contact members of parliament who can use their influence to make a difference. With one simple click below you can send an email to your local State MP asking them to support our efforts.
