It’s an important time in Australian politics right now as we approach a Federal election, likely to be held in May 2022. This election provides a critical platform for us to reinforce our ongoing conversations within Canberra – and nationally – about how our health system is letting down Australians because of the lack of access to timely diagnosis and treatment of eye disease.

Over recent months, we have launched three powerful documents, outlining our key asks of the Commonwealth.

Combined, our Working Together for Better Eye Care policy platform, 2022-2023 Budget submission and 2022 Federal Election platform (both detailed and brief versions) outline how, with practical, low cost investment and reasonable changes in policy, the delivery of eye health can be enhanced through the effective utilisation of our highly skilled workforce. Importantly, we are advocating for optometrists to work to their full and evolving scope of practice.
