Date: 27/07/2019

Venue: tba, QLD, 4000

Provider: Australian College of Optometry

Contact: Liz Salvatore, [E] cpd@aco.org.au, [P] 03 9349 7477

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the fundamentals of OCT
  • Demonstrate an understanding of retinal anatomy and features
  • Discuss the clinical applications of OCT
  • List the main OCT scan profiles
  • List the criteria for selecting a particular OCT scan and the interpretation of the scan
  • Recognise artefacts on an OCT scan
  • Contrast fundus autofluorescence (FAF) and OCT
  • Discuss the role OCT and OCT- angiography in the diagnosis and management of macular diseases, retinal vascular disease and glaucoma
  • Explain how OCT scans complement information that is obtained by direct clinical observation and fluorescein angiography
  • List the OCT findings that are to be expected in various macular conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, venous occlusion, vitreo-retinal disease, epiretinal membrane, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, pigment epithelium detachment, choroidal neovascular maculopathy central serous retinopathy, vitelliform dystrophy, macular telangiectasia, vitreomacular adhesion and vitreomacular traction
  • Discuss the expected OCT findings that are associated with vascular disease, including diabetic macular oedema and retinal venous occlusion
  • Explain the value of OCT-angiography in the diagnosis of retinal ischaemia
  • Describe the applications of OCT-angiography in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma
  • Identify the different patterns of loss in glaucoma that are evident with OCT.
  • Compare and contrast visual field and OCT changes
  • Explain the integration of the RNFL and GCL scans in the evaluation of the risk of glaucoma

Max points awarded: 10.50
