Learning Objectives

  • • To understand various eyelid disorders and their effect on dry eye
  • To highlight newer diagnostic options available for screening and follow-up of dry eye
  • To understand the latest therapies and technologies available for dry eye and MGD
  • • To know the principles and types of refractive surgeries
  • • To recognize who may benefit from phakic IOL surgery or SMILE with parameters for proper patient selection
  • To highlight potential risk factors/complications of these surgeries to provide appropriate post-operative care
  • Understand the basic anatomy and function of the vestibular system
  • Identify and describe presenting signs and symptoms, assessment and some treatment strategies for Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV)
  • Explain presenting signs and symptoms (including ocular) for vestibular system disorders
  • Suggest other medical conditions which may give rise to a sensation of dizziness
  • at the end of this talk the participants will be able to recognise some rare congenital genetic diseases and their manifestations
  • be able to perform the adequate testing and OCT imaging
  • interpret OCT scans in all these different diseases
  • At the end of this talk the participant should be able to identify common, ‘corneal maladies’
  • At the end of this talk the participant should be able to identify unusual, and not to be missed ‘corneal maladies’.
  • At the end of this talk the participant will be updated on the therapeutic treatment of ‘corneal maladies’
  • Understand that the Ocular Surface is complex system with ocular surface disease arising when there is loss of the mechanisms needed to maintain its health.
  • At the end of this lecture the participant should understand important advances in the diagnosis and management of ocular surface disease, including stem cells.
  • At the end of this lecture the participant should understand important advances stem cell applications.
  • To review the recent genetic associations with Glaucoma and how this will lead to cascade genetic screening of families with glaucoma
  • To review the recent genetic associations with Myopia and how we may be able to recognise children at high genetic risk of myopia
  • To review the recent environmental data on outdoor time and its association with myopia and how we should currently advise parents of children with early myopia.
  • Optometric assessment for accurate diagnosis of optic nerve disease
  • Appropriate referral criteria for optic nerve disease
  • Optometric management and therapeutics for optic nerve disease
  • At the completion of this presentation, participants should be able to diagnose a pterygium and differentiate from other ocular surface lesions
  • At the completion of this presentation, participants should be able to treat medically and prevent pterygiums
  • At the completion of this presentation, participants should be able to understand the surgical treatment of pterygiums
  • At the completion of the course, participants should be able to know when to refer a patient for pterygium surgery
  • At the completion of the course, participants should be able to complete a referral with all relevant information.
  • Ascertain the advantages and disadvantages of the various means of peripheral fundus examination
  • Identify commonly encountered peripheral fundus lesions
  • Know the management of sight threating peripheral fundus lesions
  • at the end of this talk the participants will be able to recognise, differentiate the white dot syndromes
  • perform adequate investigations for White Dot Syndromes
  • understand the therapeutic management of White Dot Syndromes
