Applications are open for the 2023 Optometry Australia Student Leadership Program.
This year, Optometry Australia has partnered with the Australian School of Entrepreneurship (ASE) to deliver the Optometrists’ Leadership Hub, a program aimed at empowering optometry students with essential ‘soft skills’ and equipping them to become effective leaders in their field. The Optometrists’ Leadership Hub will be facilitated by Jahin Tanvir, CEO of the ASE, as well as fellow optometry student and former Student Leadership Program alumni.
Together with Jahin and the ASE, we hope to provide participants with engaging and thought-provoking content that focuses on practical strategies and real-world insights, creating a community of confident, creative, empathetic and aware leaders who can make meaningful impact in the world of optometry. The program will cover a number of industry-relevant topic areas including networking and mentorship, diversity and inclusion, ideation, leadership styles and effective communication.
The program includes:
- Virtual access to on-demand content via ASE’s accessible Space platform, allowing participants to develop soft skills at their own pace.
- Access to live webinars connecting participants with their peers and optometry sector leaders.
- An in-person event in each major state, jointly facilitated by Optometry Australia and ASE, with the opportunity to connect to peers, Student Leadership Program alumni and local sector leaders.
How to apply?
Applications close on Wednesday, 31 May 2023. Applicants should write a brief (ideally, no more than one A4 page) response to the below questions:
- What do you think being a leader means?
- What leadership experience have you had?
- Why do you think you would benefit from participating in the Optometry Australia Student Leadership Program?
Email your application to Sarah Davies at policy@optometry.org.au. There are 20 places available and successful candidates will be notified in June 2023.
