ECOV/SA presents: Back to Basics Glaucoma Seminar – Adelaide
SA-based members of ECOVSA Committee welcomed over 30 optometrists at this inaugural event on Wednesday evening which was hosted at the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia SA branch, as part of our ongoing collaboration with one of optometry’s key referrers, pharmacy.
Following a light dinner and networking at this event which was free to OV/SA members, ECOV/SA committee member Luke Higgins welcomed Libby Boschen, OV/SA’s Special Advisor Member Services and Policy to the podium to update members on current OV/SA activities. This included scheduled CPD events, current advocacy projects in SA Public Health and schools and two impending member resources a Guide for Locums and a Driving Standards clinical guide.
Our first speaker was Jacqui Warren (Modbury Hospital Pilot and Flinders University lecturer and tutor) who provided members with an update of the current and pivotal optometry pilot in the ophthalmology clinic at Modbury Hospital, including some tips on how to ensure that referring optometrists are actively facilitating the reduction of waiting lists, as opposed to contributing to them. She went onto to recap the basics of a routine Glaucoma examination and the key decision and referral criteria.
Ophthalmologist Paul Athanasiov (Eye Surgeons SA) stepped up next to share his preferred model of collaborative care, with parameters and case studies. To conclude the evening, ophthalmologist Dr Nick Andrew (Eye Surgeons SA) introduced himself, providing a brief synopsis of his expertise and experiences, including sub-specialty training in state-of-the-art cataract surgery and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery.
