Activity Outline
Visual Aspects of Reading is a professional development seminar series exploring the relationship between vision, reading and learning. Through an evidence-informed approach, participants will examine current perspectives on reading development and consider how visual function may influence literacy acquisition and reading performance.
The series encourages critical thinking and professional reflection, providing attendees with a broader understanding of the factors that contribute to reading and learning outcomes. Participants will explore contemporary research, gain practical insights, and strengthen their ability to discuss vision-related reading challenges with patients, families, educators and other health professionals.
Suitable for optometrists and vision care professionals, this seminar offers an opportunity to expand clinical knowledge, engage with current thinking, and deepen understanding of the role of vision in reading and learning.
The seminar is the last of the series.

Learning Objectives
- Translate research into clinical practice by exploring visual performance factors that influence reading
- Review binocular vision, accommodation, vergence and oculomotor function, and their relationship to reading success
- Discuss functional and perceptual assessments, differential management of visual dysfunction and processing difficulties, and strategies for effective communication with patients, parents and other professionals regarding reading-related visual concerns.
