Activity Outline
Moreton Eye Group is presenting a masterclass for Optometrists comprising four sessions. The first session will provide an insight on adult and pediatric acquired esotropia, their management and recognition of red flags. The second session will delve into diagnosis and management of rare retinal conditions. The third speaker will highlight the importance of OCT in Glaucoma diagnosis and illustrate a systematic approach to analyse a glaucoma scan considering confounding factors and Glaucoma mimics. In the final session, cataract surgeon will discuss choices of intraocular lenses designed to offer extended depth of vision and their optical properties.Learning Objectives
- Learn to diagnose various forms of acquired esotropia in both adults and children
- Understand when to treat, when and how urgently to refer, in a case of acquired esotropia.
- Learn how not to miss the important red flags in a patient with acquired esotropia.
- Recognise important and rare retinal conditions
- Understand management of important and rare retinal conditions
- Understand the choices Australian cataract patients have when undergoing cataract surgery
- Understand the optical principles behind the major types of EMV and EDoF lenses available in Australia
- Understand the important trades off between the main types of IOL marketed to extend the range of focus following cataract surgery in Australia
- Be in a position to have an informed discussion with patients in optometric practice about lens choices for patients requiring cataract surgery in Australia
- Be able to recognise EMV and EDoF IOLs and refract patients following implantation of EMV and EDoF lens in order to provide the best spectacle correction
- To develop a systematic way to review glaucoma scans.
- To understand confounding factors while interpreting Glaucoma OCT scans.
- To understand some diseases which may also affect the ganglion cell layer
