Activity Outline
Join us for an immersive evening designed to boost your confidence in diagnosing and managing key ocular conditions. Through interactive talks, we’ll cover vein occlusion, macular degeneration, and laser treatments, with a focus on urgent referrals, red flags, and good prognostic indicators. Plus, experience a 40-minute VR game that combines education and fun!
With each session, the presenting doctor will deliver a short lecture using slides followed by MCQs. The group will be then divided into smaller groups to discuss specific case studies and treatment options. Following this opportunity of higher level engagement amongst attendees, the smaller groups will rejoin as a man group to share their ideas. The doctor will then explain the appropriate take home points.
Interactive Talk 1: Interpreting OCT in Age-related macular degeneration
Assessing the severity and urgency of the condition
Fluoroscein Angiogram and Fundus Autofluorescence (FAF) as tools for diagnosis
Interactive Talk 2: Diagnostic tools in diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular occlusions
Early signs, diagnosis, and treatment options.
When to refer and how to assess progression.
Red flags vs. good prognostic features.
Interactive Talk 3: Posterior Vitreous Detachment
A common phenomenon: This talk will concentrate on the repercussions of vitreous detachment
Interactive Talk 4: Laser Treatments
Types of laser treatments for retinal conditions.
Indications, benefits, and potential complications.
Finally a Virtual Reality Game with your colleagues with full headset and lasers

Learning Objectives
- Spot anomalies on the OCT scan, how to interpret them and how to distinguish AMD from other retinal diseases and normal variations
- Recognise features of the OCT to determine the urgency of the referral, which features are good prognostic indicators, and which features are red flags for more aggressive management
- Know when to refer for vein occlusion and how to assess progression
- Understand the early signs, diagnosis, and treatment options for vein occlusion
- Know vein occlusion red flags vs. good prognostic features
- Understand how lasers work, what types of lasers are used in ophthalmology and the different clinical situations they are used in
- Demonstrate knowledge of repercussions of PVD like retinal tears and vitreous haemorrhages
