Activity Outline
This evening will be conducted with four small informal groups being presented with interesting topics and cases for discussion
Presenters: A/Prof Ian Francis, Dr Thomas Woo, Dr Gaurav Bhardwaj, Dr Katherine Masselos
Topics include:
1. The Pupil in Optometry, Ophthalmology and Medicine
2. Ocular Rosacea including case studies
3. Intravitreal therapy – technique, indications and future directions
4. OCT for the diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma
Learning Objectives
- Recognise and assess the normal pupil
- Recognise the abnormal pupil
- Be certain as to whether an emergent conversation with their ophthalmologist, the patient’s GP, or a hospital emergency department is mandated
- Know the technique of how to dilate pupils
- Know when not to dilate pupils
- Recognise signs and symptoms of ocular rosacea
- Individualise treatment starting with conservative local treatment and progressing to a range of topical and oral pharmacological options
- Provide an overview of intravitreal treatment approaches to common conditions
- Address the techniques of intravitreal injections
- Acknowledge side effects and risks of intravitreal treatment
- Be aware of future drug delivery approaches and indications for treatment
- Identify which parameter on the OCT is the most sensitive for diagnosis and detection of progression in glaucoma
- Discuss the use of the GCIPL OCT parameter
- Discuss limitations of OCT in particular possible scan artefact
- Gain an understanding of the impact an ERM can have on OCT analysis
