AMD - When It's Not! (Recorded Webinar)
Age-related
macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of major vision loss in Australia
in people over the age of 50. However,
many clinical characteristics such as drusen, pigmentary abnormalities, atrophy
and macular neovascularisation found in AMD can also be seen in other
diseases. The use of multimodal imaging in
these cases are imperative in establishing the differential diagnosis. This
presentation discusses AMD and its mimickers with emphasis on differentiating
findings on multimodal imaging. You will
learn to apply the suitable tools including optical coherence tomography (OCT),
fundus autofluorescence, and OCT angiography and recognise the differentiating
features to aid the appropriate management.
Learning Objectives
- Able to differentiate AMD from other macular diseases such as pachychoroid disease spectrum and macular dystrophy using multimodal imaging
- Able to recognise the signs of exudation in neovascular AMD
- Be aware of the different causes of geographic atrophy and macular neovascularisation
