Learning Objectives

  • Identify common and less common indications for intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy
  • Identify common and less common indications for intravitreal steroid therapy
  • Identify common and less common complications resulting from intravitreal injections and understand indications for referral for ophthalmological assessment
  • Understand the management options for post-injection vitreous haemorrhage
  • Understand management options for post-operative hypotony
  • Identify history and examination findings that differentiate infectious from non-infectious endophthalmitis
  • Understand potential complications of cataract surgery and how they are influenced by cataract maturity
  • Demonstrate awareness of cyclodialysis cleft as a cause of hypotonous maculopathy
  • Demonstrate awareness of aqueous misdirection syndrome as a rare cause of raised intraocular pressure after cataract surgery
  • Understand why there are different presentations of retinal detachment as well as the techniques of retinal detachment repair when considering vitrectomy or a buckle
  • Understand that not all floaters are due to a vitreous detachment and what can be done to eradicate symptomatic floaters
  • Understand what you can do to manage dysphotopsias in the community and what to do if that fails
