Learning Objectives

  • identify patients with pre-operative ocular co-morbidities and know how to manage these prior to consideration of surgery
  • Develop a basic understanding of the range of intraocular lens design on the market , particularly monofocal versus multifocal , who these are best suited for and limitations in their use.
  • Appreciate that co-management with a number of sub-specialists is warranted depending on the ocular co-morbidities of a patient , decipher when this may be needed and consider optimal timing for this referral.
  • Become familiar with new innovation in cataract surgery and the pros and cons of their uses , including Femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery , same day cataract surgery , combined cataract surgery and stent or corneal procedures etc.
