Learning Objectives
- • Optometrists will be able to recognize patient complaints and be able to explain and deal with these issues in their practice.
- • A knowledge of evidence-based recommendations for managing cataract patients including:
- • Timing of and indications for surgery
- • Considerations in one-eyed patients
- • Bilateral simultaneous cataract surgery
- • Choice of intraocular lens
- • Management of complications of cataract surgery
- • Enable a greater understanding of the surgical technique of Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery using the LenSx laser platform
- • Examine the patient and surgical benefits of using the LenSx laser for our patients
- • Gain an understanding of the evidence base for the clinical and safety advantages of using the LenSx laser for cataract surgery
- • Evaluate latest evidence of FLACS vs conventional phaco
- • Introduce Akahoshi Karate Prechop instrument and technique as a cost effective and safe alternative to PACS
- • Demonstrate the use of the Akahoshi Supercombo Prechopper
