Central Coast Day Hospital invites you to our 2024 Optometrist Education evening.

Hear from leading Ophthalmologists covering the latest information on a range of topics.

Presentations will be presented by 4 Ophthalmologists. Each presentation will run for 30 minutes on topics of interest to the Optometrist community and include an interactive Q&A opportunity. 

In addition this event offers networking opportunities in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Central Coast Day Hospital is a recognised centre of excellence in ophthalmic surgery providing world class leading surgical facilities and technology to treat the full spectrum of adult and paediatric ophthalmic surgical conditions.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the importance of accurate biometry in cataract surgery
  • Differentiate between traditional and modern IOL power prediction formulas
  • Analyze the impact of axial length and corneal curvature on IOL prediction accuracy
  • Understand the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in improving IOL power predictions
  • Identify key factors that can lead to refractive surprises in post-refractive surgery eyes
  • Understand phase 2 and 3 clinical trial results of emerging treatments for wet (neovascular) AMD
  • Understand phase 2 and 3 clinical trial results of emerging treatments for dry (atrophic) AMD
  • Recognise serious adverse events associated with intravitreal procedures including endophthalmitis
  • Understand intraocular lenses to avoid in patients with macular disease
  • Evidence for optimum timing of intravitreal procedures and cataract surgery
  • Differentiate papilloedema vs pseudo-papilloedema
  • Identify tests useful in the differentiation between papilloedema vs pseudo-papilloedema
  • Understand multimodal imaging of optic disc drusen
  • To be familiar with options that are available for patients seeking spectacle independence and
  • Know when to to choose one type of procedure over another for a given patient
