Learning Objectives

  • Explain AMD disease classification in terms of both structure and function
  • Describe ways to assess AMD risk and detect early or sub-clinical disease by measuring dark adaptation
  • Discuss current AMD treatment options
  • Obtain advanced imaging interpretation skills in relation to AMD, particularly in optical coherence tomography
  • Improve patient management, through knowledge of biomarkers, risk of progression and “red flags” that require special attention
  • Gain an understanding of the rapid technological changes and clinical trials (current and planned) in the care of AMD, and be able to counsel patients on emerging treatments
