- Identify clinical signs of early and high-risk Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
- Differentiate non-proliferative vs proliferative diabetic retinopathy using fundus and OCT findings
- Apply appropriate triage and referral urgency for suspected PDR
- Describe current management approaches, including laser and anti-VEGF therapy (e.g. Lucentis)
- Outline the optometrist’s role in co-management and monitoring of treated patients
- Differentiate between laser vision correction, Refractive lens exchange, and Cataract surgery
- Identify suitable and unsuitable candidates for each surgical pathway
- Apply a structured age- and lens-based decision framework for refractive care
- Counsel patients on risks, benefits, and realistic visual outcomes
- Describe the optometrist’s role in appropriate referral and long-term co-management
- Apply a structured triage framework to common retinal presentations
- Identify clinical signs requiring same-day, urgent, or routine referral
- Differentiate stable vs active macular disease using OCT and fundus findings
- Recognise red flags for sight-threatening conditions requiring immediate escalation
