ECOVSA Seminar: Paediatric Ophthalmology – Beyond the Referral
This session Claire will discuss the referral pathways and triage processes at the Women’s and Children’s, and tips for sending urgent referrals including the benefits of multidisciplinary eye care. She will also cover what she has learned from this eye-opening experience!
Dr Black will examine the surgical and non surgical management of IXT.
Meet your speakers:
Claire Ong |
Claire graduated from Flinders University in 2021 and has worked at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital since January 2023 in the paediatric ophthalmology team. Her role explores how an optometrist’s knowledge and skillset can contribute within paediatric tertiary-level eye care in a public hospital. |
Dr Joanna Black |
Jo completed her undergraduate medical degree at the University of Adelaide and her 5 years of basic Ophthalmology training was undertaken in Adelaide. She completed sub-specialist training in the UK, with 6 months at the Oxford Radcliffe Infirmary in Neuro-ophthalmology and Strabismus in Oxford, followed by a 12 month fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology at the world-renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
Jo has volunteered across South-East Asia as a Visionary for Sight for All. She worked in West Africa for a year as a young Ophthalmologist and participated in the visiting Ophthalmology service in Broken Hill for fifteen years. |
