ECOVSAT presents:

The Many Roads of a Clinician: Career Options and Insights

Megan Zabell will present a short talk on alternative career pathways for optometrists outside of the consulting room. This will be followed by a talk from Dom Willson addressing “your burning questions” regarding topics such as Medicare billing, patient management and other professional services queries taken straight from OA’s member help desk.

Meet your speakers:

 Megan Zabell

Megan graduated as a therapeutically endorsed optometrist from the University of Melbourne before working for a metro Melbourne independent practice for 7 years, during which she also taught pre-clinical optometry at the University of Melbourne for several years. It was her passion for increasing awareness of dry eye and the benefits of contact lenses that led her to join Alcon’s Professional Education & Development team in late 2018. Megan also has experience in delivering outreach optometry to regional areas of Victoria under ACO’s RFDS Optometry Program, as well as volunteering her optometric skill on missions to Vanuatu and Nepal.

Dom Willson
Dom has over 30 years experience as an optometrist; over 20 years as an optometry practice owner; and also is an experienced visiting/outreach/locum optometrist in NSW, ACT, the NT and SA, including independent and corporate, small country towns, remote communities and Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) and Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Organisations (ACCHO). Dom works two jobs, (1) 3 days a week for Optometry Australia (national office) as Professional Services Advisor and (2) 2 days a week for Flinders University (Adelaide) as an Associate Lecturer in Optometry supervising final year students on placement in Aboriginal Medical Services and in the university clinic. Interests include Aboriginal eye care and optometry practice management; also public speaking, teaching and lecturing on optometry-related topics; training and helping early career optometrists and optometry students. In his role as Professional Services Advisor for Optometry Australia, Dom provides OA’s members with one-on-one professional advice on a range of issues related to professional practice; and also responsible for co-ordinating the development of resources and the implementation of projects that provide professional advice or support to members.
