Learning Objectives

• Refresh their knowledge of indirect ophthalmoscopy examination techniques in addition to indented dynamic examination as an option
• Recognize key vitreo-retinal conditions
• Apply appropriate diagnostic techniques and imaging modalities for effective diagnosis of retinal and vitreous disorders.
• Understand the medical and surgical management options for common vitreo-retinal conditions.
• Identify when to refer patients to an ophthalmologist and ensure timely intervention for optimal outcomes.
• Enhance collaboration with ophthalmologists for comprehensive patient care and management of vitreo-retinal conditions.
• Discuss real-life case studies and gain insights into best practices for managing complex cases.
• Define and describe the characteristics of a glaucoma suspect vs established Primary Open Angle Glaucoma.
• Be familiar with conditions that mimic glaucomatous optic disc cupping: compressive, ischaemic, toxic & hereditary neuropathies.
• Be able to formulate a clinical exam to detect/diagnose early glaucoma (and describe the importance of macular RGC+IP layer analysis and 24-2C testing).
• Be familiar with available medical treatments for glaucoma and how to determine treatment success.
• Evaluate when maximal medical treatment has been reached and when surgical intervention might be required.
• Understand the non-medical treatment options for glaucoma, including the role of lasers and surgery.
• Understand broadly the 3 classes of surgical intervention for glaucoma and when each is likely to be required.
• Recognize complications and be familiar with initial management of complications.
• Differentiate between traditional glaucoma surgeries and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), including their indications and relative advantages.
• Identify referral criteria and red flag signs that require urgent ophthalmology review following glaucoma surgery or laser treatment.
• Increase the understanding of the technique of modern cataract surgery and its limitations
• Understand what modern lens technology offers patients and which lens is suitable for which patient
• Gain improvement in knowledge with regards to diagnosing post-operative complications
• Improve knowledge with regards to treatment of post-operative complications
• Know when to refer patients for cataract surgery
