Learning Objectives

  • To learn about corneal and glaucoma conditions that need to be considered when planning for cataract surgery and the issues that might be encountered, what surgical planning is needed for optimal visual outcomes and how community optometrists can help in improving the final visual outcomes for their patients with co-existing corneal and glaucoma conditions
  • Planning for cataract surgery on the background of other conditions/commodities, specifically uveitis, DMO and CSCR, including the importance of ongoing monitoring postoperatively and the Optometrists role. Plus the role of steroids in managing inflammation in these patients.
  • To understand other potential causes of retinal vascular occlusion, the complexity of pregnant patients with retinal vascular occlusion and the importance of a good retinal exam
