Activity Outline

Eyes First invites you once again to our annual optometry education night. Hear from your local ophthalmologists covering the latest information/updates on various topics whilst gaining CPD hours.

Each doctor will present in lecture style relevant topics relating to their sub-specialty with opportunity for interactive discussion and questions. Each presentation will be approximately 20 minutes duration, followed by a Q & A session of approximately 10 minutes. Total educational content will be 2.5 hours. The following topics will be covered.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify specific challenges and considerations when performing cataract surgery on patients with glaucoma.
  • Review the key elements of preoperative assessment for glaucoma patients undergoing cataract surgery
  • Evaluate effective postoperative management strategies for glaucoma patients to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Describe the various mechanisms of ocular trauma, including blunt, penetrating and chemical injuries.
  • Recognize the clinical signs associated with various forms of ocular trauma and their management.
  • Define traumatic glaucoma and discuss its clinical presentation, various treatment options.
  • Discuss the latest developments in keratoconus surgical management (CAIRS, ICRS and newer CXL protocol)
  • Understand the diagnostic criteria and imaging techniques used to differentiate various peripheral retinal lesions, including fundus photography and OCT.
  • Differentiate between benign and pathological lesions in the peripheral retina, understanding their implications for patient management.
  • Identify the key criteria and factors used in assessing driving safety and capability in patients with RP.
  • Understand the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms that contribute to secondary glaucoma and how they differ from primary glaucoma.
  • Differentiate between the different types of secondary glaucoma, such as neovascular glaucoma, pigmentary glaucoma, pseudoexfoliation glaucoma and inflammatory glaucoma.
  • Explore the treatment options and management strategies for secondary glaucoma, including medical, laser, and surgical interventions.
