Activity Outline

Until recently there has been no treatment available for patients with geographic atrophy (GA), which can have a significant impact on the quality of life for patients. However, this changed earlier this year with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approving the first intravitreal injection for GA treatment, and more emerging therapies in the pipeline.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the multi-faceted pathophysiology of geographic atrophy
  • Be aware of the early clinical markers of loss in visual function due to geographic atrophy
  • Realise the importance of multimodal imaging in the diagnosis and management of GA
  • Be aware of the evidence to support the current treatment for GA and aware of treatments in the pipeline
