Activity Outline
This Glaucoma Co-management Webinar Series consists of three live, interactive webinars co-presented by Dr Nick Toalster and Dr Neha Sharma, both Brisbane-based specialist ophthalmologists. Each webinar runs for approximately 60 minutes (45-60 minutes of content plus Q&A) and is targeted at optometrists working in glaucoma co-management. The format is deliberately conversational rather than didactic, with both presenters co-located and engaging in dialogue throughout.
Each session is structured around a clinical theme and incorporates frequent interactive elements, including live polls assessing baseline knowledge and clinical habits, case discussions where both presenters work through real clinical examples (disc photographs, OCT printouts and visual field reports), and open audience prompts encouraging questions and discussion throughout. The series concludes with a co-management communication framework, giving attendees a practical structure for monitoring, escalation and referral communication with their co-managing ophthalmologist.
The three sessions are:
(1) Glaucoma Diagnosis - covering normal findings, ocular hypertension, physiological cupping and glaucoma suspects;
(2) Angle Closure - covering the spectrum from primary angle closure suspect through to acute angle closure glaucoma; and
(3) Glaucoma Monitoring - covering practical interpretation of OCT and visual field data, concluding with the co-management communication framework.
Following each presentation segment, attendees will complete a set of multiple-choice questions to consolidate key learning points, with rationale provided for each answer.
It is not necessary to have joined webinar 1 and 2 to be able to join webinar 3. However, recording of the first 2 webinars is made available upon request.
Learning Objectives
- Recognise the key clinical features, structural and functional findings that differentiate normal, ocular hypertension, glaucoma suspect, normal tension glaucoma, and the angle closure spectrum (PACS, PAC, PACG, AACG).
- Apply a systematic, evidence-based framework for optic disc, gonioscopic, OCT and visual field assessment to guide diagnosis, monitoring and risk stratification in glaucoma patients.
- Identify red flags and clinical scenarios that warrant urgent or routine referral, including masquerade conditions and acute angle closure glaucoma.
- Apply case-based learning and an agreed co-management communication framework to strengthen collaborative care between optometrists and ophthalmologists, including monitoring intervals, escalation triggers and referral content.
