Activity Outline
Case 5 Myopia and Glaucoma
This online education programme provides an opportunity for eye health professionals to maintain their competence in diagnosing and treating glaucoma, assisting them in delivering the highest level of service and most up-to-date treatments available. The 2026 cases and Disc Assessment were compiled and prepared by Professor Dame Helen Danesh-Meyer.
Cases contain a combination of patient history, clinical examination findings, optic nerve photographs, visual field test results, optical coherence tomography scans as appropriate, and any other relevant clinical information. The Programme consists of 6 new cases, including case history, questions, and answers for self-directed learning, followed by a web-based examination comprised of 25 multi-choice and true/false questions.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the mechanisms by which myopia influences optic nerve head morphology and increases glaucoma risk
- Understand the challenges in diagnosing glaucoma in myopic eyes and differentiate myopia-related changes from glaucomatous damage
- Recognize the limitations of OCT and perimetry in assessing myopic patients and implement appropriate management strategies
