IDW Series 2025 (Imaging#3): Mastering OCT for Macular Disease: Decoding Fluid, Atrophy, and PED Patterns
Date: 3/09/2025 ()
Venue: https://lms.optometry.org.au/course/view.php?id=924
Activity Outline
In this interactive 1-hour 15-minute workshop, we will dive into the key OCT findings associated with macular diseases, focusing on fluid, atrophy, and PED (pigment epithelial detachment). Through engaging case studies, you'll learn how to describe OCT features using precise, clinically relevant language, interpret the results, and apply your findings to refine differential diagnoses and confirm diagnoses when paired with other multimodal imaging techniques. You'll also develop the skills to recognise characteristic OCT patterns and utilise OCT biomarkers to guide both diagnosis and management plans. Join us for a deep dive into the intricacies of OCT interpretation and how it can impact clinical decision-making in macular disease management.
Following this, join Ulli Hentschel in exploring emerging clinical evidence that is shaping the future of childhood myopia management. Participants will review the long-term impact of MiYOSMART spectacle lens technology, including insights from the landmark 8-year follow-up study—the longest-running research in this category. The session will also examine the clinical potential of combination treatment approaches and highlight the importance of early intervention, particularly in pre-myopic children. Collectively, these insights reflect a growing body of evidence supporting more proactive and personalized strategies for managing childhood myopia
Learning Objectives
- Describe OCT findings related to fluid, atrophy, and PED in macular diseases using appropriate, clinically relevant language.
- Interpret OCT results and apply these findings in differential diagnoses and confirming diagnoses in conjunction with other multimodal imaging and clinical results.
- Synthesise OCT patterns and apply OCT biomarkers to optimise diagnosis and management strategies in macular disease.
- Explain the long-term clinical evidence behind MiYOSMART spectacle lens technology, including key outcomes from the 8-year follow-up study
- Assess the clinical value of combination therapies for myopia management and consider how these approaches can be integrated into patient care
- Identify strategies for early intervention in pre-myopic children and apply evidence-based approaches to support proactive myopia management
