Activity Outline

The evening will consist of 4 sessions by Dr Hamish McKee and Dr Rylan Hayes.  Each presenter will give a 15 minute and a 30 minute presentation, totalling 90 minutes of educational content.  Within each session the presenting surgeon will deliver a short lecture using PowerPoint slides followed by an online knowledge check quiz  

Learning Objectives

• Develop a better understanding of the causes, signs and symptoms of keratoconus, and the diagnostic modalities available to assist with this.
• Confidently undertake diagnostic testing to form a diagnosis of keratoconus and be able to monitor its progression and improve understanding of when the condition should be referred for co-management
• Develop a better understanding the rationale behind the therapeutic management of keratoconus and be able to confidently co-manage patients with this condition to stop progression - including patient education, pharmacological agents, and corneal crosslinking
• Develop an appreciation of the difficulties involved in surgical management of keratoconus patients and the rationale for one modality over another - including photo refractive keratectomy, intra-corneal ring segments/CAIRS, implantable collamer lens, and cataract surgery with IOL implantation
