Activity Outline

This CPD educational event will be hosted over dinner at The Marion, an iconic venue overlooking Lake Burley Griffin. 

Dr Parth Shah from Clarity Eye Surgeons (Braddon) will speak on cataract surgery and intraocular lens options, including case discussions.

Dr Mariana Sheales, who has recently moved back to Canberra and joined Clarity Eye Surgeons, will speak on her fellowship experience in the UK, and what's new in glaucoma diagnosis and management, including surgical treatment options, using case discussions. 

Parth is an experienced ophthalmologist who moved to Canberra in 2022 to serve the needs of the local community.  He has special interests and skills in cataract surgery, strabismus and paediatric ophthalmology. Parth's goal is to achieve the best possible outcome for all of his patients through evidence-based practice, cutting-edge technology and a commitment to continuous surgical audit and improvement. Parth is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Canberra and Senior Clinical Lecturer at The University of Sydney. Parth is active in clinical research and teaching, and supervises registrars at several public hospitals including Canberra Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital & Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. 

Mariana grew up in Canberra, and has moved back following completion of her specialist ophthalmology training through Sydney Eye Hospital, followed by super-speciality fellowship in Glaucoma at the prestigious Oxford University Eye Hospital in the UK. Mariana is passionate about teaching and supervision of trainees, and has already been appointed as a consultant ophthalmologist at the Canberra Hospital. She looks forward to providing regular patient care as well as emergency on-call services. 

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the different intraocular lens options available for different patients undergoing cataract surgery.
  • Understand the stepwise approach to glaucoma management, including new developments in diagnosis and treatment (medical and surgical).
