Learning Objectives

  • 1.1 Understand the mechanisms of retinal detachment
  • 1.2 Develop an understanding of surgical management for retinal detachment
  • 1.3 Identify areas in which optometrists can assist in managing these patients
  • 2.1 Recognise the role that optometrists play in directing patients to ophthalmic care at the appropriate time
  • 2.2 Optimise patient care through improving referral practices and health care communication
  • 2.3 Review the scope of therapeutic treatments available to optometrists and its relevance to shared care
  • 3.1 Recognise the aetiologies of ERMs and MHs
  • 3.2 Understand the factors affecting urgency of ERMs and MHs
  • 3.3 Develop an understanding of what is involved in surgical management of ERMs and MHs
  • 4.1 Identify types of IOL fixation and conditions that relate to IOL implants such as subluxated or dislocated IOLs, UGH syndrome
  • 4.2 Develop an understanding of temporising management for subluxated and dislocated IOLs
  • 4.3 Develop an understanding of surgical approaches to conditions secondary to IOL implants
