Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify those cases where cataract surgery may be complex
  • Participants will understand the common reasons that result in complex cataract surgery and will have outlined to them the techniques and devices available to manage complex cases
  • Participants will have improved skills in identifying patients at risk of complications and who may need surgery involving the posterior segment
  • Participants will have an improved understanding of techniques and options available to patients in order to aid patient education
  • Participants will have an understanding of diagnosis of Glaucoma using OCT - what the OCT shows and how to look at nerve fibre layer thickness and rim analysis verses the usual visual field, IOP and cup to disc ratio
  • Participants will have an understanding on how to avoid the overdiagnosis of Glaucoma by looking at physiological blood vessel arrangements and false thinning of the nerve fibre layer
  • Participants will gain an understanding of the latest approaches using OCT A and future diagnosis of Glaucoma
