MQ Health Ophthalmologists will share the latest developments and topics in their respective fields. Each speaker will present for approximately 30 minutes including 15 minutes question and assessment time. Speakers and topics include:
Dr Aparna Raniga: Glaucoma Updates 2025 - The role of Optometrists & Real-World Cases
Dr Amy Pai: Updates in Classification & Management of Diabetic Retinopathy
Dr Gagan Khannah: The Very Latest in IOL Technology from ASCRS
Dr Jessica Tong: Periocular Skin Lesions
Learning Objectives
- Revise the term “Interventional Glaucoma” and its implications on early referral of glaucoma suspect/early glaucoma patients
- Understand the pivotal role of the Optometrist through real world cases – revise red flags to prompt referral for consideration of treatment
- Indications for surgical management - Be exposed to the complete range of glaucoma surgical treatment options – cataract plus techniques (istent, Hydrus, MiniJect, GATT) micropulse laser, Preserflo, trabeculectomy.
- To identify and classify the different grades of Diabetic Retinopathy
- To know how to screen for diabetic retinopathy and when to refer
- To learn management strategies for diabetic retinopathy and macular oedema - updates in new interventions
- Collaborate with other health care providers in managing diabetic patients
- Understanding various types of Presbyopia correcting IOLs
- Differentiating between Diffractive and Refractive IOLs: including their limitations and side effects
- Being aware of the latest developments in EDOF IOLs and how they work
- Pearls for patient counselling in appropriate choice of presbyopia correcting IOL
- Postoperative EDOF refraction tips for optometrists
- To recognize common skin lesions in the periocular region
- To recognize features of basal cell carcinoma
- To recognize features of squamous cell carcinoma and associated pre-invasive lesions
