This event will highlight new contact lens designs for myopic control, the possibility of locating the genes responsible for eye diseases such as myopia and for all the University of Canberra preceptors accommodating our final fifth year student an educational guide for clinical supervision and assessing competency.

The speaker will include international researchers and presenters 1. Dr. Emma Gillies 2. Prof David Atchison 3. Thi Nguyen and 4. Layal Naji

Learning Objectives

  • Session 1 • Enable the attendee the ability to understand different a novel way the peripheral retina can be defocused while trying to optimise distance visual acuity. Know when and how to use such a defocus lens such as the ACUVUE® Abiliti® 1-Day lens.
  • Session 2 • Enable the attendee the ability to understand different ways that the peripheral retina can be defocused in order to produce myopic control.
  • Session 3 • Enable the attendee the ability to understand if identifying genomes can play a part in predicting potential myopic progression as has been shown with AMD and glaucoma.
  • Session 4 • Give an educational guide for preceptors of final year Optometry students during external placement.

Max CPD hours awarded: 2
