Learning Objectives

  • Appreciate the role of pinhole technology
  • Understand the differing roles of corneal and lens technology in treatment of corneal aberrations
  • Understand appropriate guidelines for treatment and management of glaucoma
  • Understand the contraindications of topical glaucoma medication
  • Understand the appropriateness of topical glaucoma medication dependent upon the severity of the condition
  • Gain an ability to confidently counsel patients regarding the process of cataract surgery
  • Appreciate the different types of IOLs (EDOF, MFs and pinhole) available for implantation
  • List the considerations which need to be determined in those having cataract surgery who have corneal disease
  • To identify the patients who would be best suited to an EDOF IOL
  • To confidently educate patients on various IOLs
  • Describe characteristics of ocular surface and lid lesions that suggest malignancy
  • Recognise common eyelid and ocular surface malignancies
  • Determine which lesions require referral and the appropriate timeframe for this to occur
  • Understand the main difference in the Dresden/ traditional corneal cross linking (CXL) protocol and transepithelial CXL protocol?
  • To list the advantages of transepithelial CXL
  • To understand the differences in the two pinhole IOLs available in Australia
