Activity Outline

An interactive activity for optometrists and GPs, involving case presentations and grand rounds type presentations on common anterior eye disorders including ocular rosacea, common eyelid lumps and bumps,  OSSN/PAM and pterygia, uveitis and herpetic eye disease.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand uveitis, types, urgency of referral, treatment pearls, collaboration between GP and Optometrist/ophthalmologist.
  • Have an understanding of ocular rosacea and blepharitis/MGD. Medical vs surgical treatments. Interaction and involvement of general practice and optometry in care.
  • Know the fundamentals of herpetic eye disease - types, urgency of referral, ocular and systemic long term complications and issues.
  • Understand the treatment options for common anterior eyelid disorders including chalazia and hordeola.
  • Have an understanding of ocular surface neoplasia, how it differs from pterygia, its incidence in the local population, urgency of referral and treatment options including medical and surgical.
