Activity Outline

Nepean Valley Eye Surgeons is an established practice located in the heart of Penrith servicing Greater Western Sydney and Blue Mountains community. 

Please join us on Wednesday 4th of March for an interactive and informative Optometry Event. Thanks to our sponsor Inservio and Ophthalmapro for their support. Ophthalmapro will have an interactive dry eye display on the night with hands on experience for optometrists. Apellis will also have an interactive station set up for optometrists with the ability to try Syfovre injections and to learn more about this product in treating geographic atrophy.

The event will be held at The Log Cabin - The Bridgeview Room with beautiful outlook over the Nepean River. It will give optometrists the opportunity to mingle with the ophthalmologists and staff from Nepean Valley Eye Surgeons and to allow for networking opportunities with fellow colleagues.

The presentations on the night will include: Our director Dr Gayatri Banerjee and our associates Dr Dov Hersh and Dr Paul Adler. Michelle Glassington from Apellis will also be doing a talk on updates on Syfovre. Talks will allow for interactive discussion time to engage with your fellow peers and the surgeons. Test your knowledge multiple choice questions will also be included.

  • Clinically being able to differentiate conditions including systemic disease that present / mimic glaucoma but are not
  • Being able to differentiate field loss that presents like glaucoma but is not
  • Variations in intraocular pressure that are not apparent and the clinical significance of this
  • Be familiar with the changes in first line management in glaucoma treatment- including the role of lasers
  • Know when to refer patients for cataract surgery
  • Understand the role of an intraocular lens
  • Gain a better understanding of modern lens technology - monofocal / toric / trifocal/ multifocal/EDOF
  • How to determine lens selection in patients what clinical factors need to be considered
  • Importance of management of dry eye in optimising surgical outcomes in cataract surgery
  • Understanding the possible side effects of the different intraocular lenses available
  • Challenges of post-Lasik patients in lens selection how calculations have improved over time
  • Understanding the application of secondary IOL lenses when they can be used
  • Gain improved understanding with regards to diagnosing post-operative complications and possible treatments
