Activity Outline

Northern Beaches Cataract | Retina | Glaucoma is pleased to welcome Optometrists to an Optometry Educational Event at Long Reef Golf Club in Collaroy. Seven sub-specialist surgeons from Northern Beaches Cataract | Retina | Glaucoma will be presenting a variety of interesting ophthalmic topics including medical and surgical Retinal disease, Glaucoma, Corneal, Cataract surgery, and Oculoplastics.

Each of our Specialists will present in lecture style that relate to their sub-specialty. Each presentation will be of approximately 10 minutes duration, followed by a Q&A session of approximately 5 minutes. Total educational content will be 2 hours.

Learning Objectives

  • Topic 1: Corneal guttata – so small but so important! Learning Objectives: • Clinical significance and assessment of Corneal guttata (eg; corneal thickness and morning blur) • Implications of guttata in cataract surgery • Treatment options for corneal failure
  • Topic 2: Retinal Genetics. A new ear when RP patients have a genetic anomaly identified. Learning Objectives: • Understand common retinal genetic eye diseases • Understand new process of individual genetic testing • Understand benefits of gene therapy
  • Topic 3: Eye lids, lumps and bumps. Learning Objectives: • Identify common features of lid cancer • Understand treatment plans for these lesions • Understand diagnosis and management of non-neoplastic lesions
  • Topic 4: Double vision – that’s gotta’ be bad! Learning Objectives: • Identify trivial causes of diplopia • Identify important causes of diplopia • Identify life threatening causes of diplopia
  • Topic 5: Advances in EDOF and multifocal IOL design over time - choosing the right lens for the patient. Learning Objectives: • To gain an understanding of "enhanced" monofocal lens design • To gain an understanding of different EDOF iol designs • To gain an understanding of different multifocal lens designs • To understand what patient factors are important to consider when we choose an intraocular lens • To understand how me measure the success of an intraocular lens
  • Topic 6: Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT). Learning Objectives: • How SLT works • Which patients benefit from SLT • Limitations & benefits of SLT
  • Topic 7: Maculoschisis Learning Objectives: • Understanding Pathophysiology of Maculoschisis • Diagnosis of Maculoschisis • Maculoschisis management strategies
