Activity Outline

The OKKO Masterclass 360 Program is a full-day event held on Saturday, 30th March 2025. This year's Masterclass is celebrating 12 years of dedication to optometric education. It will feature engaging face to face presentation with significant time allocated for speaker to audience discussion and interaction. Keynote Speakers include Dr Matthew Russell, Dr Nick Toalster, Dr Eve Hsing, Dr Delia Wang, Dr Jonathan Lai and Inez Hsing.

Learning Objectives

  • Perform and interpret the core components of glaucoma testing in an optometric setting
  • Discuss potential treatment options with patients (including monitoring when suitable)
  • Confidently collaborate with ophthalmology in managing glaucoma
  • Be able to recognise and diagnose rarer secondary causes of glaucoma
  • Understand the differences in management approaches for the various secondary glaucoma
  • Be able to safely initiate treatment
  • Identify key diagnostic clues and red flags associated with upper and lower eyelid malpositions
  • Differentiate between congenital and acquired causes of eyelid ptosis and their clinical implications
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate surgical and non-surgical management strategies tailored to patient needs
  • Recognise uncommon and challenging oculoplastic cases and gain insight into their management
  • Further develop clinical problem-solving skills in the management of various retinal presentations
  • Identify potential complications associated with repeated intravitreal injections
  • Understand the treatment principles in managing common issues presenting post-intravitreal injections
  • Confidently identify and grade diabetic retinopathy (DR) and diabetic macular oedema (DME)
  • Recognise clinical and diagnostic signs that would warrant referral to ophthalmology
  • Understand what treatments (both ocular and systemic) may be used in the management of diabetic eye disease
  • Take a deeper delve into the latest diagnostic challenges, clinical diagnostic work up and diagnostic devices and therapeutic/medical, laser and surgical management of current clinical topics topics and controversies in cataract,/refractive, glaucoma, complex anterior segment, macula and vitreoretinal disease
  • Understand the role of Intraocular Collamer Lens (ICLs) and EDOF ICLs in managing refractive errors - indication, benefits, limitations and complications
  • Outline the advances in lenticular extraction surgery (SmartSight & SMILE)
  • Clarify the role of LASIK, PRK and PTK in modern refractive surgery
  • Understand how patient refractive aspirations and ocular health issues influence IOL selection
  • Understand common pre-operative and post-operative conditions that may impact the visual and refractive outcomes following cataract surgery
  • Understand the role of IOL exchange, piggyback IOL insertion, & laser vision correction following cataract surgery
  • Understand how artificial intelligence enhances optical coherence tomography (OCT) by enabling early detection and precision diagnosis of retinal conditions, including MD and diabetic retinopathy
  • Gain insight into emerging AI technologies, such as predictive algorithms for disease progression and personalized care, and how these advancements may redefine the optometrist's role in patient care
  • Identifying common causes of optic nerve swelling
  • Understand some of the risk factors that contribute to idiopathic intracranial hypertension
  • Recognise initial evaluation of suspected anterior ischemic optic neuropathy
