Learning Objectives
- Recognise the signs of a swollen optic nerve.
- More easily differentiate the causes of a swollen optic nerve head.
- At the completion of this lecture participants should be able to understand the interepration of retinal images from OCT and ultrawide imaging.
- Participants should also be able to identify common image artifacts.
- At the completion of this lecture participants should be able to recognise typical presentations of the most common forms of inherited retinal disease and use appropriate imaging modalities to identify retinal lesions.
- Participants should also be aware of the importance of using multimodal imaging to rule out the presence of inherited retinal disease in immediate relatives of the affected individual.
- Understanding of the subsequent work up process with an ophthalmologist will faciliate co-management of reversible causes of vision loss such as macular oedema and cataract, and treatable comorbidities like glaucoma and retinal detachment.
- At the completion of this lecture participants should be able to understand how donated tissue is collected, prepared and stored prior to it being used in eye surgery.
- Participants will also be able to understand what the functions of an eye bank are.
- At the completion of this lecture participants should be able to recognise common conditions diagnosed from OCT in telehealth cases
- Participants will also understand the treatment options available as well as future therapies which are undergoing trials.
- At the completion of this lecture participants should be able to understand the latest surgical treatment options for Glaucoma.
- Further they will understand the options available when patients are at maximally tolerated medical therapy for Glaucoma.
- At the completion of this lecture participants will understand the various corneal dystrophies and be able to recognise their different features.
- Understand possible management options for the different types of corneal dystrophy, including the therapeutic medication options available to optometrists
- At the completion of this lecture participants will understand the latest in diagnosis, treatment and management of choroidal neovascularisation including long term visual outcomes.
- Participants will also understand the conditions associated with choroidal neovascularisation such as diabetes, macular degeneration and pathologic myopia.
- Participants will also understand the treatment strategies for choroidal neovascularisation.
- Participants will understand the imaging and clinical characteristics of choroidal neovascularisation
- At the completion of this lecture participants will understand when combined cataract and corneal graft surgery should be done sequentially or simultaneously.
- Understand the ongoing care required in these patients and how to determine between normal and abnormal aftercare and the therapeutic management of the post corneal graft patient
- Participants will understand the factors that influence when such surgery is performed.
- Participants should understand the various different types of corneal grafting procedures.
- Understand the management of uveitis causing the swollen disc using topical therapeutic medications
- Have a greater understanding of the use of AI for ocular diagnostic purposes
- Understand the management of some conditions via telehealth that involve ocular therapeutics and c-omanagement
Max points awarded: 27.00
