Optometrist reads Optometry Connection educational publication in print or online.
Optometrist logs into OA Institute of Excellence and completes assessment questions developed from articles in Optometry Connection.
Optometrist will receive immediate confirmation upon completion and CPD Hours will be uploaded to the Learning Plan of their CPD Portfolio.
Optometrists completing online assessment will be able to review incorrect answers and have an opportunity to repeat the assessment activity in line with adult learning principles and OBA guidelines.
Opportunity to provide feedback and commentary provided by standard OA Institute of Excellence CPD Activity Feedback Form.
Learning Objectives
- Refine your diagnostic approach to an uncharacterized non-glaucomatous optic neuropathy
- Recognise the limitations, contraindications, and potential adverse effects associated with oral steroids and antimicrobial therapy in the management of toxoplasmosis chorioretinopathy
- Identify the key clinical and imaging features used to recognise and differentiate Coats’ disease from other causes of retinal vascular abnormalities
- Describe the pathophysiology and classification of uveitis
- Identify the clinical features of and differentiate JIA associated chronic uveitis and the more common HLA-B27 associated acute anterior uveitis
- Understand the potential vision threatening complications of untreated or inadequately managed JIA uveitis
- Discuss your role as an optometrist in the diagnosis, monitoring and co-management of uveitis using modern imaging and instrumentation
- Recognise the appropriate referral and treatment pathways to support collaborative care and prevent blindness in children and adults
- Recognise key treatment and management considerations for dry eye following blepharoplasty
- Understand why optometrists are key health practitioners to recognize signs of child harm
- Use an objective communication style to maximize useful history and accurate recording of preceding events from carers
- Recognise potential ocular neurological and retinal manifestations associated with COVID-19 infection and post-recovery
- Understand the diagnostic approaches for retinal arterial macroaneurysms (RAM), including the role of imaging techniques
