Activity Outline

Optometrist reads Optometry Connection educational publication in print or online.

Optometrist logs into OA Institute of Excellence and completes assessment questions developed from articles in Optometry Connection.

Optometrist will receive immediate confirmation upon completion and CPD Hours will be uploaded to the Learning Plan of their CPD Portfolio.

Optometrists completing online assessment will be able to review incorrect answers and have an opportunity to repeat the assessment activity in line with adult learning principles and OBA guidelines.

Opportunity to provide feedback and commentary provided by standard OA Institute of Excellence CPD Activity Feedback Form.

Learning Objectives

  • Confidently make clinical decisions about prescribing low concentration atropine for myopia control throughout all stages of the patient journey
  • Identify vision-related risk factors for falls in older adults.
  • Apply evidence-based approaches in history-taking, vision assessment, and refractive management to reduce falls risk
  • Recognise referral pathways and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration to address vision-related falls risk
  • Understand the aetiology and clinical presentation of episcleritis and scleritis
  • Confidently distinguish cases of anterior scleral inflammatory disease using diagnostic agents
  • Recognise indications for referral to ensure optimal patient care and clinical outcomes
  • Understand how ancillary tests can aid diagnosis of choroidal melanomas
  • Appreciate the importance of obtaining appropriate baseline data for patients
  • Recognise post-treatment complications and need for life-long monitoring
  • Appreciate the contraindications and complications of IPL therapy for the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction
  • Confidently discuss absolute and relative contraindications and optimize the timing of treatment for patients
  • Appreciate the importance of evidence-based practice by recognizing that while IPL is a promising treatment for dry eye, the literature on specific contraindications is still evolving.
  • Understand the differences in the management of RCE secondary to EBMD and their applications in various situations
