Activity Outline

Optometrist reads Optometry Connection educational publication in print or online.

Optometrist logs into OA Institute of Excellence and completes assessment questions developed from articles in Optometry Connection.

Optometrist will receive immediate confirmation upon completion and CPD Hours will be uploaded to the Learning Plan of their CPD Portfolio.

Optometrists completing online assessment will be able to review incorrect answers and have an opportunity to repeat the assessment activity in line with adult learning principles and OBA guidelines.

Opportunity to provide feedback and commentary provided by standard OA Institute of Excellence CPD Activity Feedback Form.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the distinguishing features of PEHCR, understand current management strategies, and recognise the potential consequences of misdiagnosis
  • Understand the pathogenesis and risk factors which may give rise to uveitis-glaucoma-hyphaema syndrome
  • Demonstrate confidence in diagnosing and triaging uveitis-glaucoma-hyphaema syndrome within a primary eye care setting
  • Differentiate between rigid corneal, scleral, and hybrid contact lens designs used in the management of keratoconus, including their fitting principles and clinical indications
  • Evaluate the advantages and limitations of specialty contact lens options in terms of visual outcomes, patient comfort, and potential complications
  • Apply contemporary clinical considerations and technological advancements to optimise contact lens selection and fitting strategies for patients with keratoconus and related corneal ectasias
  • Recognise and apply the principles of quality use of medicines (QUM) in optometric practice
  • Recognise current prescribing trends in soft contact lenses, including approaches to presbyopia correction and myopia control
  • Describe how individual differences in visual sensitivity affects patients’ experiences with lens aberrations and how lens designs can be tailored to improve visual comfort
