Activity Outline

The doctors at Outlook Eye Specialists are excited to host our annual Super Sunday Optometry Conference. Featuring great speakers, practical talks and practice enhancing dialogue. The meeting aims to provide maximal CPD points and is heavily subsidised to provide excellent value! Network with colleagues and faculty and take your knowledge and practice to the next level. Benefit from clinical pearls, tips and tricks shared by our expert speakers. The talks and experience are geared to allow knowledge use immediately.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss why geographic atrophy is a growing clinical concern and how new treatments aim to slow its progression
  • Recognise the key features of complement inhibitor therapy and what patients can realistically expect
  • Be aware of emerging treatments on the horizon and how to discuss them with patients 
  • Know when and how to refer patients with GA for specialist assessment or low vision support
  • Describe the proposed link between GLP-1 receptor agonists and ocular complications and explain the current evidence for and against causation. 
  • Identify diabetic retinopathy patients who require more frequent monitoring when starting GLP-1 therapy.
  • Outline an appropriate management pathway for diabetic macular oedema with good presenting vision.
  • Discuss the indications and contraindications for prophylactic laser retinopexy in patients with lattice degeneration and retinal holes.
  • Describe epidemiology, genetics and risks
  • Understand pathophysiology for each condition
  • Recognize characteristic clinical features on examination
  • Understand risk profile for progressive disease • explore current management - medical, laser and surgically
  • Describe GLP-1 receptor agonists • understand pharmacodynamic effect and clinical use
  • Recognize systemic effects 
  • Recognize ocular effects and in review evidence for glaucoma protection
  • Discuss the evolution of retinal detachment surgery and the clinical presentation of retinal detachment, differential diagnoses of retinal detachment and discuss the indications for different types of retinal detachment repair
  • Determine when pterygium have the potential to threaten vision and describe medical therapy for control of pterygium symptoms 
  • Discuss the characteristics of ocular surface squamous neoplasia
  • Differentiate conjunctival pigmented lesions
  • Manage bacterial keratitis and discuss the role of corneal scraping
  • Differentiate normal aging from glaucoma progression · Be aware of the causes of chronic conjunctivitis
  • Revise lid anatomy and the aetiologic factors in entropion development
  • Discuss the treatment of entropion - both medical and surgical and the prevention of recurrent entropion
  • Revise anatomy of ocular blood supply
  • Outline common causes for arterial and capillary occlusions and ocular ischaemia
  • Correlate symptoms with signs and how to triage, investigate and ocular ischaemia
