Summary
This talk will discuss AI and cover the historical context and recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI) relevant to healthcare.   Dimitri will discuss and identify key AI technologies and their current applications in general healthcare and optometry, including give a very basic outline of how modern chatbots like ChatGPT work and critically evaluate the potential impact of AI on clinical practice, patient care, and healthcare delivery.

 

Learning Objectives:
1)  
Recognize emerging trends in AI that may influence future optometric practice and patient management.

2) Assess the ethical considerations and potential challenges associated with AI integration in healthcare settings.

3). Develop strategies for staying informed about AI advancements and their relevance to optometric practice.

DR DIMITRI YELLACHICH has a special interest in vitreoretinal surgical conditions as well as medical retinal conditions such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He undertook subspecialty training in the USA and the UK, and was involved in medical product development. After 10 years of being head of department of Fremantle Hospital eye clinic and teaching at Notre Dame University he fills the extra time with short track ice speed skating and is a keen amateur filmmaker.
