OWA CPD Metro Evening is now on Tuesday 10th June and will be presented by Dr Jonathan Lam, sponsored by Bayer.

Summary:  Dr Lam will present a case-based session to explore the role optometrists play in identifying and preparing patients for complex cataract and vitreoretinal surgery. Through real clinical cases, and surgical video, plus highlight practical ways optometrists can recognise complex cataracts and retinal comorbidities early, communicate realistic visual expectations, and ensure timely and effective referrals. Dr Lam will provide practical tips, behind-the-scenes insights, and case discussions that bridge the gap between optometric assessment and surgical care.

Learning Objective:
To enhance optometrists’ ability to identify and communicate the impact of coexisting cataract and retinal pathology on surgical outcomes and referral urgency, using clinical imaging and case-based learning.

This is planned as an In Person Event & Zoom attendance.

Bio: Dr Jonathan Lam – Vitreoretinal Surgeon, Perth Retina
Dr Jonathan Lam is a consultant cataract and vitreoretinal surgeon and vitreo-retinal oncologist based at Perth Retina, with additional appointments at Fremantle Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital. He completed dual VR and Ocular Oncology fellowships in Australia and the UK, including at the world-renowned Liverpool Ocular Oncology Centre and vitreoretinal unit. His current focus includes basic and complex cataract surgery, retinal surgical disease, and establishing ocular oncology services in Western Australia.
