Activity Outline

This interactive masterclass seeks to explore a variety of paediatric presentations affecting Optometrists in clinical practice. Paul Croucher will investigate the management of early onset esotropia from an Optometrist's point of view. Anu Mathews will consider red flags in paediatric practice, highlighting signs needing ophthalmological care and co-managment.

Tim Fricke will delve into the intricacies of vision therapy, reviewing evidence based strategies and practicalities. These sessions will incorporate intimate discussion and participation amongst attendees.

Learning Objectives

• Review the evidence base behind vision therapy
• Understand when vision therapy is appropriate in managing paediatric patients
• Consider factors involved in applying vision therapy in clinical practice
• To understand diagnostic signs of early onset strabismus
• To consider ways to assess young children in an optometric setting
• To determine an appropriate management plan for early onset strabismus involving both child and parent
• Consider situations where ophthalmological care is imminent in paediatric practice
• To review diagnostic signs for a variety of paediatric eye conditions
• To consider evidence based management of eye conditions presenting in clinic
