Activity Outline
Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) is the national peak body representing the 1.9 million Australians living with macular disease, the leading cause of blindness and vision loss in Australia.
There is less evidence on the social impacts of macular disease compared to clinical research. MDFA commenced an ongoing series of cross-sectional studies to understand the social impact of living with macular disease. These studies along with published research have uncovered a range of key insights on the unmet needs of people with macular disease. The session will highlight results from the Social Impact Studies, relevant to optometrists and share approaches for identifying and assisting patients with living with macular disease.
The session will conclude with an overview of MDFA's support services for patients, how to refer to MDFA and equip optometrists with strategies and information to enhance clinical care for macular disease patients.
