Activity Outline
The course introduces the basic and clinical sciences related to the use of therapeutic agents in the care of patients with glaucoma. This course provides the student with important fundamental knowledge essential for the diagnosis and co-management of patients with glaucoma, in line with current scope of practice and clinical practice guidelines. This knowledge will also contribute towards professional development relevant to the Optometry Australia Credentialled Advanced Practitioner – Glaucoma program.
Learning Objectives
- Define and discuss the pathophysiology of glaucoma
- Diagnose and differentially diagnose and stage glaucoma
- Develop a plan for glaucoma management, including the use of ocular therapeutics where relevant
- Understand current clinical practice guidelines and co-management guidelines for glaucoma
- Understand seminal clinical trials relevant to the care of glaucoma patients in general optometric practice
