Activity Outline
This workshop guides optometrists through a multimodal evaluation of the optic nerve using fundus photography, OCT, autofluorescence and other imaging techniques. Through a series of clinical cases, participants will develop practical skills to differentiate optic nerve pathologies, recognise key imaging features and confidently integrate multimodal findings into diagnosis and management.
The presentation following this will explore the practical application of myopia control strategies for myopia cases associated with prematurity & congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB). We will discuss the clinical reasoning behind using myopia contact spectacle lenses, such as, D.I.M.S. technology (MiyoSmart lenses), both as a standalone treatment and in combination with low-dose atropine.
Learning Objectives
- Identify and interpret multimodal imaging features of common causes of optic nerve oedema and other optic nerve pathology
- Perform integrated analyses of OCT, fundus photography and autofluorescence findings by applying knowledge of imaging technology and optic nerve anatomy
- Incorporate multimodal optic nerve imaging findings to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient management
- Describe the proposed mechanisms for the development of myopia in infants born prematurely
- Explain the genetic link between congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB) and high myopia
- Understand the myopia management goals for patients with non-school age myopia progression
